Description:

Sjogren's Syndrome is the second most common autoimmune disease (even more common than Breast Cancer), yet many
people have never heard of it. Onset usually begins after 40 years old and 90% of patients are women...though children & men do get Sjogren's Syndrome.

Because the symptoms of Sjogren's are multiple and change from day to day, and because there is a tendency for people to discount their symptoms (Oh, air conditioning always dries me out), it is often difficult to diagnose the disease. Many patients suffer for years before obtaining a diagnosis.

In existence for over a year now, the Sjoggies In Pittsburgh Support Group was formed for the purpose of providing support, education; informational handouts and social time to Sjogren's Patients & their family & friends, as well as medical professionals. The group always has an agenda & most meetings feature a professional speaker.

For more information, please contact Sandy Burkett, Co-leader SIP Group; Ambassador for the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation and Sjogren's Patient.
